Real Wedding: Regina & Rodney

Regina & Rodney had an emotional ceremony in Lexington Park, Maryland. There was not an exact theme but simple elegance within a rustic framework! Regina also incorporated sunflowers and lanterns on each side of the main aisle to honor her mom – whom she lost 5 years ago!

Q: Any advice or tips for future Mrs.?

My advice and tips are:

1–Plan. Don’t allow your lack of planning to become an emergency for those that are standing by to assist you – it’s not fair. If for whatever reason, you do not have a core planning team, (not everyone does), be kind to yourself – take the time to write out your thoughts/vision as soon and as often as you can. Take your notebook with you everywhere.
2–Be Kind to those around you.
3–Beware of comparing your budget to other weddings of grandeur observed in magazines, websites & television. Stay in your budget lane… and here’s the hard part: be okay with it. Embrace where you are.

Q: What about your love story?

My husband saw me at a function prior to what I call our first real “meeting”. He claims that he asked me to dance and I ignored him – but I still refute that to this day.

Fast forward two weeks later. I was invited to a barbecue at his brother’s home by a mutual friend. After an intense discussion about college football, he asked me for my phone number. I stared at him for a few seconds because I wasn’t sure if he was for real or not. After about 10 seconds of simply staring at him, he looked at me and said “You took too long. Everything isn’t for everybody, so never mind”, and he walked away (of course I was taken aback & my pride was a little hurt).
So……a week later, (specifically September 5, 2014), I got over my bruised ego, swallowed my pride and sent his sister-in-law a message on Facebook and told her that if Rodney is still interested, she can give him my number. He called me within 10 minutes and we have been inseparable ever since. Rodney proposed on my birthday in March of 2017 & we were married in September of 2017 (yes, crazy I know!)

Q: What was the inspiration behind your wedding theme?

At the risk of sounding corny, my inspiration came from what I envisioned when I closed my eyes. I desired simple elegance within a rustic framework – but there were no rules for me – only what was in my heart. Additionally, I incorporated visual memories of my mom – whom I lost 5 years ago. She loved sunflowers, so I found two lanterns, put one on each side of the main aisle and inserted a sunflower in each so that I can “see her” as I walked down the aisle.  I also collaborated with a couple of friends….gave them my vision….and they helped me to enhance it.

Q: Did you enjoy the wedding planning process? Why or why not?

Although it was stressful at times (of course), I enjoyed the process. The planning was a cathartic release for me. I developed a separate ‘informational packet’ for the photographer, bridesmaids, groomsman and core planning team. This helped.

Q:  What was the best/most memorable part of the day?

Seeing my children, friends and family come together for at the reception. They danced the night away and there was so much love in the place. We’re still receiving phone calls asking us to renew our vows so that we can throw another reception for them. Our response? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! (*smile*)

Q: What did you love most about your #Cocomelody dress?

Opening my Cocomelody bag took my breath away and made me cry. The wedding dress quality was so beautiful that my youngest daughter and I hung it on my door and stared at it for the rest of the night. I loved the way that it was tailored for me and the way that it hugged my body – comfortably.  I wore it all night….

Q: What do you think about Cocomelody and the customer service?

The more specific, the more better! Attention to detail is what I appreciated the most about Cocomelody‘s customer service. They did not let me off the hook with sending the right measurements and information. I was asked to send pictures more than a few times, to mitigate any mistake. And I appreciated it so much.
